Access to great trails in the beautiful High Peaks Region is why we absolutely love Keene. Trails are endless but here are some easy/moderate and less crowded hikes. We recommend downloading the All-Trails app to find the right trail for you. Please be aware that all the 46 High Peaks, such as Mt. Marcy, Algonquin and Giant, are extremely challenging in terrain, elevation gain, and distance. The “easiest” 46 high peaks are Cascade and Porter, but tend to be crowded and you will need to properly prepare. Please take a paper map as there is no cell service, wear appropriate clothes/shoes, and bring lots of water! We also recommend wearing gaiters for mud and trekking poles for balance on rugged terrain.

Lake Placid is a village about a 20-25 minute drive from Keene near the lake of the same name. It’s known as a Winter Olympics venue and as a hub for Adirondack outdoor pursuits. Take a stroll on Main Street to shop for souvenirs and grab a bite at one of the many diverse restaurants offering locally sourced ingredients. Mirror Lake is located in the heart of Lake Placid Village. This is a beautiful lake to explore by paddle boats, kayaks, or canoes or take a leisurely hike around its shore. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum exhibits artifacts including team uniforms and medals, while the Olympic Oval offers inline skating and skate rentals in the summer.
